An ICE chud shot and killed 37 year-old Renee Good in her vehicle this morning in Minneapolis. While witnesses describe and video footage appears to show an unnecessary killing, the right wing media, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and President Donald Trump wasted no time spinning a false narrative to justify the violence. Seattle’s Rep. Pramila Jayapal, the most vocal opponent of the administration’s fascist deportation agenda in the Washington State congressional delegation, is unsurprisingly among the first elected officials to call bullshit.
“Everything the Trump administration is saying about the ICE shooting in Minneapolis is a LIE,” Jayapal wrote on Twitter.
In a social media post, Trump fabricated an alternate reality for his loyal followers to cling to when sending links to hours-long conspiracy theory video essays to their no-contact adult children.
Trump blatantly lied, saying Good “violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer,” who, he said very casually, “seems to have shot her in self defense.” The video evidence clearly disproves this claim — Good did not run anyone over.
But he didn’t stop there.
Trump said, “Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.” Again: No one got run over.
“The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis,” Trump wrote. “They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this
Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!”
Jayapal pushed back on Trump on Twitter within minutes.
“This is lie after lie after lie from the President — a completely dishonest description of ICE shooting and killing a woman in Minneapolis,” Jayapal wrote. “Truly disgusting.”
Jayapal also responded to a post from DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin. In the statement, McLaughlin said that “rioters” blocked ICE officers as they conducted targetted operations. She accused Good of “weaponizing” her vehicle, specifically trying to run ICE officers over and kill them, which McLaughlin flagged as “an act of domestic terrorism.”
She gave a flattery gloss to the killers over zealous trigger finger, claiming he shot “defensive shots” while “fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public.”
Jayapal’s social media team screenshotted that shit and slapped a big, red graphic over top, calling it “LIES.”
“Everything the Trump administration is saying about the ICE shooting in Minneapolis is a LIE,” Jayapal wrote. “The woman did NOT ‘weaponize her vehicle.’ She did NOT ‘attempt to run over law enforcement officers.’ She was trying to drive away from the scene. ICE shot and killed her.”
Jayapal is not alone in her outrage. Washington Sen. Patty Murray also accused DHS of “lying about what we can all see with our own eyes” in a post on Twitter. Similarly, the Minneapolis Mayor also called DHS’s self-defense claim “bullshit.”
