President Donald Trump’s Border Czar is coming to Seattle — and he’s not coming for the Space Needle.
In a recent interview with FRONTLINES, powered by far-right organization Turning Point USA, Border Czar Tom Homan said he plans to visit Seattle and Portland.
"Antifa and all the rest of those assholes are not going to bully me. I'm going to Portland and I'm going to Seattle. Just like I went to Chicago, like I went to New York. But when I go to Portland and Seattle, it's going to put that, its going to elevate that issue up here,” Homan said.
He continued, "...I want to send a message to the men and women of ICE that, ‘hey, I got your six. I know it's tough out here, but we're not forgetting about it. We'll give you all the resources you need.’"
Homan said he didn’t have an exact date on the books, but his Chief of Staff is “working on it.”
“I will be in Portland. I will be in Seattle, and you can count on it. Matter of fact, we're going to double down, triple down,” Homan said.
It's not immediately clear what exactly Homan’s presence will mean for Seattle. Perhaps Homan will bring with him increased enforcement, perhaps pressure on local officials to crackdown on protests (like they need an excuse), or perhaps his little tour stop will amount to little more than clip farming in a rightwing media circus that rivals the hate group prayer rally debacle of earlier this year.
The Burner asked Mayor Bruce Harrell how he will prepare for the Border Czar’s visit and he has not responded. Expect an update if he does.
