Call Your Senators: Stop U.S. Weapons to Israel

It’s time to call your Senators and tell them to vote “yes” this week on three Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) that would block hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. weapons transfers to the terrorist Israeli occupation forces and government. The pressure of Washingtonians is particularly important. In July, a majority of Democrats voted to block weapons to Israel for the first time, marking a historic turning of the tides. Washington’s Sen. Patty Murray flipped on the issue, voting “yes” after standing against two previous JRDs, but Sen. Marie Cantwell held strong for genocide. She could use a call from you soon!

On Monday, Sen. Bernie Sanders announced he will force a vote sometime this week on legislation to block the sale of nearly half a billion dollars worth of bombs and bulldozers to Israel. He wrote in a statement on social media, “The extremist Netanyahu government that has committed genocide in Gaza does not need more military support from American taxpayers.”

According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) this will block the transfer of 12,000 half-ton BLU-110 bombs, which are capable of leveling apartment buildings, 10,000 500-pound  BLU-11 bombs, which are used in repeated airstrikes in densely populated areas, and the licensing of 5,000 250-pound Small Diameter Bomb system, described as precision-guided munitions. In all, that represents more than 27,000 bombs.

This will mark Sanders' fourth attempt to block weapons transfers to Israel since November 2024. Initially only 18 Senators voted to block weapons and even fewer in April 2025. But in July 2025, Sanders celebrated a small victory: despite the failure of his JRD, for the first time a majority of Democrats supported the measure.

Murray made national headlines over her vote. As The Burner previously reported, she kept her support tempered. In a statement, she was careful to reiterate that “Israel has a right to defend itself and Hamas is a brutal terrorist organization that should be eliminated, but the level of suffering and loss of life we are seeing in Gaza must come to an end —I feel strongly that the vast majority of the American public understands these simple truths.”

She said the JRD was not a “perfect” legislative tool, but would send a message to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government that they “cannot continue with this strategy.”

While Murray made the right decision in July, both Senators need constituent pressure as the vote approaches this week. After all, they have both received hundreds of thousands of dollars from pro-Israel lobby groups.
